Go teach in France [fr]

Every year, Jamaicans and Bahamians have the opportunity to go to France to teach English for a 7 months period, via the “Poste d’assistants Program” from the International Centre for Pedagogic Studies (CIEP).

This year, the program is also open to students from the University of the West Indies from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The government in France is allocating some positions to English Language Assistants each academic year. For Jamaicans and Bahamians, these positions are available in mainland France as well as in the French overseas departments of Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guyana and Reunion. For students from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, positions are available in Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guyana.

Stipulations for assistants involve teaching up to 12 hours a week, either in a primary or secondary school, for a 7 months period, generally from October to April each year. They will receive a monthly allowance, subject to change, of 794 Euros (around 110 000 JMD at the current exchange rate), while the round trip to France will be at the selected candidates’ expenses.

This program is open to students aged 20 to 30. All candidates should have the equivalent of an Associate Degree and a fair knowledge of spoken French (DELF/Level B1).
